Positive Mental Attitude

It is important that you are able to manage your own emotions so that you are able to create and sustain a positive mental attitude. And a positive mental attitude is especially important during tough times

Why is a positive mental attitude important during tough times?

It is important because, in life, you tend to get, not what you want, but rather, what you think about.
  • If you think you're beat, you are.
  • If you think you daren't, you don't.
  • If you'd like to win but think you can't, it's almost certain that you won't.
Your thoughts drive your feelings, your feelings influence your actions, and your actions influence your results.

The quality of your external results is, to a degree, depended on the quality of your thoughts

If you expect to win, you are upping your chances of winning.
If you don't expect to win, then you won't.

You must learn to control the content of your mind

If you control your mind you control your feelings, actions and results.
If you fail to control your mind you will fail to control your feelings, your actions, and your results will be driven by luck, rather than by judgement.
Five categories of thought.
  1. Thoughts of the present moment. Leads to Situational awareness.
  2. Thoughts of a good future outcome. Leads to feelings of Confidence.
  3. Thoughts of a bad outcome. Leads to feelings of Fear
  4. Thoughts of a past bad event. Leads to feelings of anger, bitterness, revenge, guilt.
  5. Thoughts of the good old days. Leads to feelings of nostalgia.
Your job is to control your mind so that is stays between category 1 and 2:

  1. Thoughts of the present moment.
  2. Thoughts of a good future outcome.
Your job is to control your mind so that it does not overdose on category 3, 4, and 5.
  3. Thoughts of a bad outcome. Feelings of Fear.
  4. Thoughts of a past bad event. Feelings of Anger, bitterness, revenge, guilt.
  5. Thoughts of the good old days. Feelings of A good past event .Nostalgia.

Control your thoughts and you will control your emotions.

Inspire the others and induce the team to create a positive mental attitude in order to create a winning team spirit.
The same principles that applied to managing your own state of mind may be applied to managing the emotions of others.

You need to develop the language of a leader.

Your words have an awesome power.
Don't just blurt out anything.
Remember that everything you say has an emotional consequence in the mind of the listener.

Be wary of embedded commands.

Don't panic! Is an embedded command to panic.
Don't worry! Is an embedded command to worry.

Language of a leader

  1. Reduce the problem back to its true dimensions.
(i.e. don't dramatize the situation and make it seem worse than it is!)
  2. Maximise your perception of your own power. Take the initiative.
  3. Make yourself the agent of change.
Initiate the success formula. Purpose plan action feedback change.
(Do not allow yourself to feel the victim of change)
  4. Use metaphor to your advantage. Choose your words carefully.
  5. Develop a clear goal. Formulate a detailed written plan of action.
  6. Develop a "Sense of certainty" that you can achieve it.
  7. Beware of unfounded pessimism. Eliminate future will be bad, thinking. Be wary of the "arbitrary fears".
  8. Use a strong physiology. Eat right, sleep right and go to bed on time.
  9. Use an effective voice tonality. Use your best voice tones.
